Market 333: SS Project 00486 in Ohio

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00486, 00120*00949.  Frank pointed me in the direction of this car listed on Hemmings.  Condition is pretty good and it should make for a straight-forward restoration to ‘clean driver’ without going too far under water at the $40,000 asking price.  For a full on restoration it will require just as much work as a car like the disassembled project I listed recently.  Wheels are very rare (on a Giulietta) Borrani wires complete with a spare.  I’m personally not a big fan of the wire wheel look, but many are.

Am I blue?  Yes, but not the right shade.  Looks pretty good as far as derelict SS’s goes.

Market 324: Rough SS project 177353

Update 9/12/11: Beverly Hills Car Club is the lucky dealer who gets to add the dealer tax/toll between the end buyer and first seller of this car.  I guess it’s sort of like interest on money loaned.  Anyway, they scrubbed it up, added $7000 to the price and have it listed.

Taking turd polish to new heights!  Original bosphoro blue is a great color -if it had its original engine it would be an even better car to restore.  Lot’s of work to do but someone will do it.  Judging by the tires this thing has been off the road a LONG time.  Lots more pictures here.

Update 9/3/11: Sold for the Buy it Now price to the man in the big yellow hat!

Giulia Sprint Speciale 10120*177353Been a while since we had a rough SS on the site, but this car on eBay right now makes up for the lack.  Needs a lot and when you get it apart it will need a lot more.  Price of $19,500 BIN is not too bad really.  Lets see, 177061 has failed to bring more than $85,000 on eBay despite being a really nice example, take $19,500 from that leaves $65,500.  $20,000 in bodywork, $10,000 in paint, $10,000 drive train rebuild (and still not correct)… you get the idea.  If you want one and are handy with tools though, who knows.

It’s an SS, it has some glass, it’s on 4 wheels, it doesn’t have any huge dents.  So far so good.

Market 321: SS 177468 at Barons

Update 8/28/11:  The auction for this car will be on September 19th at Sandown Park Race course -you have to preregister but can call in a bid.  I also got a bunch of high resolution pictures that show this to be a very very nice example.

Very nice luster to the paint, detailing in the new pictures is very clean.  No excuses amazing.

Interior looks amazing -be sure to check out the other pictures linked above -lots of good detail shots.  Red with gray is a very attractive combo.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10121*177468This car is to be (or was -not sure) auctioned by Barons.  Car is a late Giulietta probably with 3 shoe brakes up front.  Auction estimate is 40 – 44000 pounds -in the neighborhood of $70,000.

Looking good!  Door gaps are nearly invisible.  Wheels are Borrani type.  Very red.

Market 226: SS 10120*00533 in Florida

Update 8/24/11:  It has been reported by several attendees that this car made $190,000!  Serious money.  Lightweight Sprint Veloce Money.  SZ money not too long ago.  Now every bumpkin who inherits a busted up SS is going to be offering a $190,000 Buy it Now on eBay.  Nice.

Update 8/20/11: This car was spotted at the Gooding and Co auction this Monterey weekend, spruced up and looking to sell for a lot of money based on its preservation status.

It’s amazing how good they can make a car look with some polish and care.

The story as they tell it.

Update 6/30/10: Elmar sent me an email making me aware of the picture below… must be the same car as this is a rare color and vent windows are even rarer.

Period shot of 533?  Probably!

Update 6/11/10: I hear $250K is the magic number.  I will have to chew on that for a while -not sure how I feel about it.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00533. Elmar, the European correspondent sent me a link to this SS that is available now from Pegasus in Florida -car was owned my the owner of Centerline for a while.  Condition is said to be all original and as can be seen it has the rare vent window option.  I’m not sure what they are asking for it.

This is a great color- kind of a platinum gray silver.  It’s said to be as good as it looks.  Trim, shut lines etc are all fine.

Market 305: US Market modified Giulietta SS

Update 4/25/11:  Wrong engine… wrong nose… missing trim… $28,655.55… I think I would have sold it…

Originally posted 4/15/11: Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10117 10120*00246The latest to emerge from the woodwork since SS’s officially got expensive is this car on eBay right now out of Florida that scooterist Paul pointed out to me.  I’ve seen it before -that nose is unmistakable, can’t remember when, but I think it had something to do with Bobcor, which I believe is no more.

It’s got nostrils.  I’ve seen a few with this treatment.  Some trim is missing up here.  Hood fits good.  Not bad on balance.

Market 297: Giulietta SS at Steutel

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00358. This car is available right now from Jan Steutel in the Netherlands.  Not much is said about the condition, but from the looks of it, it has seen some work.  I sold the previous owner a rear bumper spear that was a duplicate from my SS project, which is where I got the picture prior to paint and the VIN number.  Asking price is 14,500 Euro -not bad really if it’s as complete as stated.

SS body on a dolly in an industrial looking neighborhood.  The front fender wheel arch swooshes seem to have been trimmed or something.

Market 294: SS Low-nose 10120*00078 (sold)

Update 3/18/11: The seller sent me more pictures so click on the link below (the vin) to check them out.

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00078, 00120*00029.  I get emails all the time from people with Giulietta’s of all stripe, this is the first Low-nose SS.  Dimitrios in Greece commented on the site then followed with an email with these pictures attached.  I was in the middle of a busy February (11 days in Spain, driving across the USA in a moving van etc) and by the time I got around to writing about this car it has been sold -or at least a hand-shake agreement has been made for its sale.

Early 70′s Spider nose fits surprisingly well.  Wheels are late 101 Borrani’s if I’m not mistaken.  It also looks like the windshield trims, front and back are missing.  I used to have extras.

Market #31: Restored 1960 Giulietta SS

Update 3/13/11: More pics from Bill.

Update 3/12/11: Not your usual resale tale here.  This car sold for $140,000 + 10% at Amelia Island.  Buyer was the Malamut Auto Museum in LA.  Thanks for the tip Eric!  Anyone have pics from the auction to share?  Oh, and congrats to the seller on a big cha-ching.

A nice one from Bill Gillham, the restorer, who is no doubt proud of his work.

From the sellers own hand as the bidding passed the estimate.

Market 284: Giulietta SS 00228

Giulietta Sprint Speciale 10120*00228, 00120*00627. You may note that this is the fifth SS in a row I’ve found on the market and written about.  Good time to be shopping for a nice one.  This particular car is in Germany at Movendi -”The spirit of classic cars’.  Price is 49,900 Euro’s or about $65,000.

I’m running out of words here.  Nice, red, shiny, well turned out and with its hood slightly ajar.  Cool.

Market 280: Giulietta SS racer

Marko sent me a link to this race prepped Giulietta SS, available on mobile.de, with a seller located in Italy.  The asking price is 57,900 Euro’s or about $77,500.  Seems like a lot, but there is no telling what was done to make it a race car.  If anyone knows the VIN for this car, let me know.

The airbrush job on the background is interesting.  Wheels are later small-hole Borrani’s.

Market 271: early SS racer in Italy

Giulietta SS 10120*00215. This car is listed on Luzzago at the moment out of Italy.  It has been modified quite a bit for racing but looks as though the removal of some decals and moving toward a more stock interior might yield a fun street racer.

Headlight covers aren’t my thing and the grill is from who knows what, but under here is an SS.

Market 267: SS in Europe

Update (later the same day): Okay -I know this car because Jay drove it on the Melee in 2000 or 2001.

Giulietta SS. Marko sent me a link to this one.  I get the feeling I’ve seen it before but can’t remember when/where and don’t have time to peruse the last 30 months of markets to find out -I wonder if it’s a local car I was trying to track down last Spring out of Stockton Ca?  It’s listed as a 1962 and by the look of things it is in decent shape though not very original, with a 36,000 Euro asking that makes some sense.

Script in its mouth is odd.  This is pretty close to the effect I was going for with my SS had I followed through with it.  Wheels are later 105 items.  Has a roll bar and the headlight rings don’t look quite right -maybe Fiat 124 items which work fairly well on SS’s.
